Summer Reading Program

The library has an annual program to keep kids reading during the summer. The program is filled with fun events and activities as well as a challenge to read as much as possible. During the month of July, children keep track of how much time they spend reading and at the end of the program they’re able to choose prizes based on their total reading time. All the while, we offer several outdoor and virtual events families can participate in. It is free for any child who lives in Epping and is a great way to encourage ongoing learning and a love of reading. No child is too young to start– many parents of young children enjoy tracking time they read together and participating in the events and activities.

Birds of Prey: Our Talon-ted Friends
What is the difference between a hawk and a falcon? Do we have vultures in Maine? What is our smallest owl? What is our largest hawk? Where do they live? Using our amazing live non-releasable bird ambassadors, posters, and hands-on materials, we will discuss the kinds of birds of prey found in Maine, their habitats, habits, place in the food chain, and why we need to protect them. This hour long program will connect the audience with these beautiful ambassadors of their species as well as provide their natural and personal histories and empower audience members to help to steward the environment that we all share.

LINDSAY’S PUPPET PALS
WEDNESDAY, JULY 29TH AT 2PM
Lindsay’s funny, fast-paced, and highly interactive variety show delights the young and the young at heart! Kids will meet several larger-than-life, hand-crafted puppets… Perhaps a goofy moose, a heroic tiger, or a lovable bear. Oh my! Maybe a dancing robot or flamingo, a spunky chicken, a stubborn goat, a shy dragon, or a singing dinosaur! Come find out who’s making an appearance this time!
Lindsay has been performing full-time since 2011, presenting to several thousand children each year. Through animated storytelling and thoughtful messaging, she hopes to model social emotional learning and creative play. She believes shared joy and laughter strengthens communities of all kinds!
This program is a great fit for ages 3-8 and families.
